Hi there! My name is Alicia, and I’m the LMS Manager here at Emphasys University. For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I’d like to share some information about my background.
I began my career in IT in 2011 while attending college. Early on, I noticed a significant lack of procedural documentation in the workplace. Training was often passed along informally from one person to the next, which posed a risk of losing essential knowledge if a key individual were to leave. To address this, I started creating policy and procedure documentation for every aspect of the office, from lab image creation to equipment scheduling and inventory management.
Over the years, while working at various companies, I continued to nurture my passion for knowledge sharing and documentation. However, it was at Microsoft where I had the opportunity not only to create internal procedures and documentation but also to develop external documentation for customers. As much as I enjoyed myself, it wasn’t until I was doing similar work at Epic Games that I realized I might be missing my calling.
I officially transitioned into customer education while working for Chili Piper, a scheduling software company, where I helped create Chili Piper University and its associated certification programs. I did similar work at MaintainX, a work order software company based in Montreal. I am passionate about thoroughly learning new software and translating that knowledge to benefit our customers. Each day, I wake up excited to share my understanding and help our customers navigate this industry and our product effectively. I hope to bring the same level of insight and support to our customers as I continue to learn and grow.
On a personal level, I’m a mom to three wonderful children, all of whom are almost successfully launched into adulthood. My youngest is a senior in high school. My husband, who is originally from Canada, became a U.S. citizen in 2024. He works remotely, and we love traveling the world together. We have visited Morocco, London, and Ireland, and we hope to visit Italy next. Additionally, we have a small Maltese Yorkie named Pumpkin, who often interrupts any meetings I am speaking at.
The Five Questions:
-
- Most used app on your phone? I wish I could say it’s an intelligent app, but it’s Rednote. When the first TikTok ban happened, and the app was unavailable for a day, I started using the China-based alternative and never really went back. In the last couple of hours each day, I like to unwind with some mindless entertainment.
- If you could be somebody else at Emphasys for a day, who would you be? Mary Carmichael. She meets with me every week to answer any questions I have about the industry or our product. However, it would be fantastic to have all her knowledge available in one session without needing to know what specific questions to ask in advance. Considering the numerous meetings she has each day, there may be some drawbacks.
- If you had an extra hour every day, what would you do with it? Write a book. I’ve always wanted to write a fiction novel, but I never seem to have the time actually to do it.
- The zombie apocalypse is coming; who are three people you want on your team? If fictional, the majority of the characters from the TV show Supernatural. They would be well-equipped to deal with the apocalypse.
- Favorite ice cream flavor? Mint chocolate chip. It’s been my favorite since childhood and stays true today.
