By Greg Gagnon

EUCbadge2015Austin, Texas: “the Clean-Air City,” “the City of the Violet Crown,” the capital of Texas, and, this August, a place to explore new frontiers in PHA performance. This year Emphasys Users Connect 2015, our annual educational user conference, will be held in Austin – a city of many names and slogans.

With its sprawling skylines and bustling downtown, participants will be staying in the heart of things at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, where they will have the chance to soak in the life and culture that so many Austinites experience daily. We’re excited to bring together numerous Public Housing Authorities and housing professionals in one central location. They will have the opportunity to network with not only hundreds of their peers from around the nation, but also with 25 of our own Emphasys staff.

hudseal_teal_1Our HUD keynote speakers this year, Patrick Evans, IT Director – PIH and Richard Smith, Manager – REAC, will introduce and discuss the details for the proposed PIC system upgrade.

Mr. Evans has over 35 year’s experience in software development both in Europe and the United States, serving both commercial and government clients. For the last 15 years he has been working for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Real Estate Assessment Center, where he has been leading their IT department for the last three.

Mr. Smith has been with HUD since 2002 and has served as a Management Information Specialist at the Grants Management Center. In 2004 he moved to the Capital fund program and in 2007 he became the Deputy Director of the program. Since 2011 Mr. Smith has been the REAC manager responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of the PIC VMS and EIV systems.

Beyond the keynote, Mr. Evans and Mr. Smith will also host two session during the conference to review the technology of the new PIC system replacement with attendees. They will review the new system’s technology, answer questions, solicit feedback, and take input from our attendees.

Cheryl Fox, from the REAC IT Division, will also be on hand at the conference to host two PIC-related sessions. She will give presentations focusing on the business side of the new PIC system and will discuss the business strategy associated with the PIC upgrade. Ms. Fox will review the new system from a business standpoint, answer questions, solicit feedback, and take input from our attendees.

From our session offerings to our industry speakers, Users Connect is a great venue for PHAs to receive individual attention on housing-related issues specific to their everyday routines. During the day, participants will be able to sit-in on workshops discussing a wide range of topics varying from HUD trends and database management to software training and demonstrations. In the evening, guests will have the chance to network with other colleagues and interact with our software vendors.

We look forward to sharing firsthand industry insight relevant to the affordable housing mission as we count down the days to Users Connect 2015. See you in Austin!
